Gloria Carrasco is a former architect and university professor. She first discovered ceramics in 1990. Her analytical bent from her previous professions imbues her aesthetic process as she works with clay. She states, “I enjoy the contact with the clay. I take advantage of its texture, plastic qualities, and infinite possibilities to build shapes. I am still surprised by the color and different finishes that can be achieved through the kiln.”
Carrasco's work has a strong connection with Mexican pre-Hispanic sculpture. Depending on the theme she is working on, she uses metal, textiles, acrylic, or other materials. She creates fundamentally large-scale sculptures and wall reliefs. For her, the ideal technique is to work with slabs that are also greatly connected to her architectural training.
Carrasco goes on to say, “I am interested in topics related to geology, the landscape, meteorological phenomenons, and how we as humans interact with them. I identify images, data, and materials and analyze their patterns and dynamics in the making of the territory as the center of the contemporary experience.
